New safety guidelines expected to kill a popular automotive Trend

The most recent European New Car Assessment Program (Euro NCAP) guidelines may give car manufacturers an incentive to replace touchscreens with traditional physical buttons and switches.

New rules set to go into effect in January 2026 announced by the European New Car Assessment Program, or Euro NCAP as it's known, will see new safety testing introduced in a couple of years that could result in a fundamental change to how automakers approach new vehicle interiors and touchscreens.

This would mean requiring more physical controls on the dashboard which are believed to cause less distraction while driving as compared to touchscreen  models.
